Bombers Titanium Eggbutt Happy Tongue
Designed for horses that may be sensitive to tongue pressure, the Bombers Titanium Eggbutt Happy Tongue Bit features Bombers’ highly successful Happy Tongue mouthpiece. The solid mouthpiece is uniquely ported to maximise tongue relief and curved to distribute pressure more softly over the bars while applying tongue pressure gradually.
The fixed eggbutt cheekpieces help prevent pinching and stop the bit from being pulled through the horse’s mouth. They provide a stable, consistent feel against the sides of the face, with a slower release than a loose-ring bit and the introduction of light poll pressure.
Made from strong yet extremely lightweight titanium, the mouthpiece is warm to the touch and encourages salivation and acceptance. Titanium is also antibacterial, biocompatible, non-toxic, hypoallergenic and easy to maintain.

Which Horses May Suit the Happy Tongue?
The Happy Tongue may be worth considering for horses that show signs of tongue sensitivity, including:
- Shaking the head
- Sticking the tongue out
- Drawing the tongue back and making an intermittent coughing noise
- Attempting to place the tongue over the bit
- Going behind the contact
- Snatching the reins forwards and downwards
Every horse responds differently, so correct sizing and professional bit fitting are recommended.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Bombers Happy Tongue mouthpiece do?
The solid, ported Happy Tongue mouthpiece creates generous space for the tongue. Its curved shape distributes pressure more softly over the bars and applies tongue pressure gradually, making it suitable for horses that may be sensitive to tongue pressure.
What are the benefits of an eggbutt cheekpiece?
Eggbutt cheeks provide a stable feel against the sides of the horse’s face, help prevent lip pinching and reduce the likelihood of the bit being pulled through the mouth. They offer a slower release than loose rings and introduce light poll pressure.
Why choose a titanium horse bit?
Titanium is exceptionally strong while remaining lightweight in the mouth. It is warm to the touch, encourages salivation and is antibacterial, biocompatible, non-toxic and hypoallergenic.
How thick is the mouthpiece?
The Bombers Titanium Eggbutt Happy Tongue has a 13mm mouthpiece and 68mm rings, measured from the outside edges.
How do I know whether this bit is suitable for my horse?
It may suit a horse that displays signs of tongue sensitivity or avoids consistent contact. Because mouth conformation and individual responses vary, seek advice from a qualified bit fitter or equine professional before changing bits.
